Junior high and high school students gather for Black Hills Jazz Festival

Twenty-nine middle and high school jazz bands and choirs from four states recently competed at the Black Hills Jazz Festival held on the Black Hills State University campus. The festival featured talented young musicians from around the area the junior high and high school level.

Twenty-nine middle and high school jazz bands and choirs from four states recently competed at the Black Hills Jazz Festival held on the Black Hills State University campus. The festival featured talented young musicians from around the area the junior high and high school level.

The winners of the junior high/middle school swing choir division were: first place Spearfish Middle School and second place went to Twin Spruce Junior High, Wyo.

The junior high/middle school vocal jazz winners were: first place, Douglas; second place, Twin Spruce, Wyo.

The winner of the class AA high school vocal jazz division was Williston High School, N.D.

The winners of the Class A vocal jazz division were: first place Buffalo High School, Wyo., treble choir; second place, St. Thomas More High School.

The winners of the Class A show/swing choir division were: first place, St. Thomas More High School; second place, Hot Springs High School.

The winners of the Class B vocal jazz division were: first place, Miller High School; second place, Sundance High School, Wyo.; third place, Jones County High School.

The winners of the Class B show/swing choir division were: first place, Sundance High School, Wyo.; second place, Bayard High School, Neb.

The junior high/middle school jazz band winners were: first place, Spearfish Middle School; second place, Sturgis Williams Middle School; third place, Sage Valley Junior High, Gillette, Wyo.

The winner of the class AA high school jazz band division was Williston High School, N.D., Jazz I.

The winners of the Class A jazz band division were: first place, Buffalo High School, Wyo.; second place, St. Thomas More High School; third place, Belle Fourche High School.

The winners of the Class b jazz band division were: first place, Sundance High School Jazz Combo; second place, Sundance High School Jazz Band; third place, Miller High School Jazz I.
