Historical works of art by Mar Gretta Cocking, a former art instructor at Black Hills State University, are currently on display in the BHSU Ruddell Gallery in the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union.
The exhibit, “Later Works,” features just over 20 paintings that were recently donated to BHSU by the Dorsett Health Care Facility, where Cocking spent her later years. Cocking’s paintings were displayed at the Dorsett Home both during and after her 17 years at the facility.
Cocking was the third art instructor to teach at BHSU, joining the faculty in 1935. She retired in 1959 after 24 years of service that spanned two of the first three presidential administrations to govern BHSU.
The paintings will remain on display at the Ruddell Gallery through Friday, March 2. A reception for the exhibit will be held Tuesday, Feb. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the gallery. The public is welcome to attend at no charge.
Ruddell Gallery hours are: Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 12 noon to 5 p.m., and Sunday 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. For more information contact Jim Knutson at 642-6104 or the Student Union Information Center at 642-6062.
