BHSU students seek summer internship opportunities

As the semester draws to a close, Black Hills State University juniors and seniors are making plans for the summer. Many students seek an internship within their field of study during the summer.

Students hold internship positions in the community all year; however, summer internships are most popular as they allow students to work more hours and receive a better sense of the work environment.

“Many students want to work in their hometown or stay in Spearfish for the summer.  Others are eager for an out-of-state experience. Students are very resourceful at making their own connections, but we would very much like to find some interesting opportunities in the business environment through our alumni connections as well,” says Barbara Zwetzig, director of the Center for Business, Entrepreneurship & Tourism at BHSU, who coordinates internships for the College of Business & Technology.

“Employers give us good feedback on our student interns and their performance.  We hear great things about the interns, their work ethic, skills, and their ability to take responsibility and to learn quickly.  They are a source of pride for the University,” notes Zwetzig.

Students seek internships in a variety of areas including mass communication, business, psychology, human services, and others.

The College of Business & Technology at BHSU is actively seeking internship opportunities from the business community for its junior and senior level students.  The College of Business and Technology has students majoring in the following areas: accounting, management, tourism and hospitality management, economics and finance, entrepreneurial studies, and human resource management.

In addition, BHSU has the only Industrial Technology program in South Dakota, which is located in Rapid City under the direction of Tom Termes.  Internships are required for the Industrial Technology degree. Junior and senior interns are available in the areas of advanced manufacturing technology, construction technology, and technology management.
