The Black Hills State University athletic program was recently ranked 25th with 266.66 points in the final winter standings of the Learfield Sports Director’s Cup. Black Hills State was the highest-ranked school in the Dakota Athletic Conference.
The Yellow Jackets scored points for men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s indoor track and field and women’s indoor track and field.
The men’s basketball team qualified for the National Athletic Intercollegiate Association (NAIA) Division II national tournament for the second consecutive year. The women’s basketball team also qualified for the NAIA National Tournament and advanced to the second round.
Women’s indoor track and field had two team members who finished in fourth place at the NAIA national meet. Senior Wendy O’Lexey earned fourth place in the 5,000-meter run and junior Lisa Koch in the pole vault. Senior Jason Boeding led the men’s indoor track and field team finishing fourth place in the shot put.
“The success of our program can be directly credited to the quality student-athletes and coaches here at Black Hills State,” said Jhett Albers, BHSU athletic director. “The points that we score in each sport is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of those individuals.”
Points were awarded based on the institution’s finish in each sport.
