BHSU students to perform "Fiddler on the Roof"

BHSU students and faculty will present Joseph Stein’s “Fiddler on the Roof” Feb. 22-24 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 25 at 2:30 p.m. in the Woodburn Hall Theatre.

The musical is a story of the villagers of Anatevka. Tevye, played by Jared McDaris, BHSU senior English major from Spearfish, is a poor dairyman who has five daughters. The daughters are played by Sabrina Uttecht, sophomore vocal music major from Whitewood; Katie Severns, senior vocal music major from Rapid City; Amy Daiss, junior instrumental music major from Spearfish; Jess Juhrend, freshman from Spearfish; and Katie Hollinger, freshman music major from Custer.

Throughout the musical, Tevye tries to instill in his daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of “changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism” of Czarist Russia. “Fiddler on the Roof” includes songs such as: “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Matchmaker.”  Music and lyrics are by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick.

The BHSU cast also includes Mary McGillvray, junior vocal music major from Spearfish, as Tevye’s wife Golde; Casey Hibbert, sophomore speech communication major from Spearfish, as Motel; Sean Pence, sophomore mass communications major from Sturgis, as Lazer Wolf; and Bryan Kaufmann, freshman vocal music major from Spearfish, as Perchik. The villagers of Anatevka are made up of BHSU students and faculty.

Admission is $5.00 for adults and $2.50 for children and seniors ages 65 and older. For more information, contact Albert Juhrend at 642-6268. For tickets call 642-6171 or email Theatre@bhsu.edu.
