The Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets recently hosted a Coaches vs. Cancer night as a benefit for Ethan Dschaak and his family that raised more than $4,000. Dschaak, a BHSU alumnus and Sturgis head basketball coach, was diagnosed with cancer in early November.
All the men’s and women’s Yellow Jacket players and coaches wore gray t-shirts with the words “I hate Cancer.” Sale of t-shirts, silent auction, and the raffle raised over $4,000. All the proceeds went to Ethan and his family.
“We would like to thank everyone that came out and supported,” said Jhett Albers, BHSU athletic director. “The Coaches vs. Cancer night was a huge success and we wish Ethan and his family the best as they go through a very tough time. The Yellow Jackets would also like to thank Kresi Long, Melissa Nore, Kelsie Sather, John Kietzman, Kent and Sue Burnison, Kevin Krog, Tom’s T’s, the basketball staff, and all the businesses that donated, as well as the fans that came out to support this great cause by attending the basketball games.”
