BHSU to host Community Lecture and Lunch Series

Dr. Kara Keeter, an Astroparticle Physicist at Black Hills State University, will describe the importance of the research that she and her research partners are pursuing at deep underground science laboratory (DUSEL) Feb. 18 at 11:30 a.m. in the Jacket Legacy Room. This is the first presentation in the spring Lecture and Lunch Series program at BHSU.

Keeter’s presentation, “The Dark Side of the Universe,” will discuss the importance of DUSEL and its role in bringing the international science community to our doorstep. The facility will provide opportunities for university faculty and students to conduct world-class research, for K-20 teachers to expose their students to real research questions and to have them work with real data, and for the community and visitors to learn about science through the proposed science education center. The driving forces behind developing this multi-million dollar set of facilities at the surface and deep underground is the search for a better understanding of neutrinos and the nature of dark matter.

Upcoming Lecture and Lunch speakers include:

• Dr. Ahrar Ahmad will present “War and Peace in the Middle East” on March 18in the Presidents Conference Room in the Student Union from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Dr. Christian Nsiah will present “Tumultuous Economic Times and You” April 15 in the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
