Walter Panzirer Family Public Safety Scholarship Awarded to BHSU student

Zachary Burke, Black Hills State University student from Belle Fourche, recently received the first Walter Panzirer Family Public Safety Scholarship.

Burke was selected by the Mitchell Area Crimestoppers, Inc., for this prestigious scholarship made available by a generous donation by the Walter Panzirer family. The $4,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a junior or senior level University student pursuing a degree in the criminal justice field.
Recipients must also be the son or daughter of active or former members of law enforcement.

Walter Panzirer and his wife, Tina, now live near Sioux Falls. Previously, Panzirer was a police officer in Mitchell, as well as in Sturgis where he served as the school resource officer, working one-on-one with teens and organizing prevention programs. In 2007, Panzirer served as director of the Stop and Think program in Spearfish.
