BHSU presents a morning of Black Hills tourism history

Historian and author Dr. Suzanne Barta Julin will present an overview of Black Hills tourism history on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 8 a.m. in Jonas Hall, Room 309.

Dr. Julin, author of A Marvelous Hundred Square Miles: Black Hills Tourism, 1880-1941, is a South Dakota native and an award-winning author with a special interest in South Dakota western and tourism history, particularly the tourism history in the Black Hills during the pre-World War II period.

For the past six years she has interviewed Deadwood residents and officials about Deadwood’s transition to legal gaming and Deadwood history for her book.

Julin currently lives in Missoula, Mont., where she works as a public historian for local, state, and national organizations.
