BHSU announces art exhibition winners

Local artist and student Mike Knutson held a workshop during the 2009 Art Fair recently held at Black Hills State University. The fair workshops, an art exhibit and art supply vendors from across the country promoting and demonstrating their latest art supplies.

The winners of the on-line juried art exhibition held in conjunction with the 2009 Art Fair at Black Hills State University have been announced.

First place was awarded to Hannah Parrett from Spearfish, Belle Fourche's Stephanie Johnson took second and Carly Schmidt of Spearfish took third. The Art Vendor's Choice Award went to Belle Fourche artist Elfie Grusing.

Dave Wilson, associate professor of art, said he was impressed by the quality of the entries.

The 2009 Art Fair took place in the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union and featured art supply vendors from across the country promoting, demonstrating, and selling their latest products at greatly reduced prices. Workshops with regional artists, Lynn Thorpe, Sarah Rogers, and Mike Knutson, were held throughout the day.

The art fair was hosted by Black Hills State University Bookstore and the BHSU Visual Arts Department.
