BHSU will co-host 2009 Conference of the Midwest Writing Center Association

Black Hills State University will co-host the 2009 conference of the Midwest Writing Center Association (MWCA) in Rapid City next week.

The conference will be held Oct. 22-24 at the Holiday Inn Rushmore Plaza, hosted in collaboration with the University of Sioux Falls. Over 140 writing center directors and tutors will participate in the conference.

Presentations at the event will feature research topics on writing pedagogy, rhetorical theory, and tutoring practices. Approximately half of the presenters are undergraduate researchers from over 40 schools and universities across a nine-state upper Plains region.

Events during the conference will include “Conversation with a Lakota Poet” with Lydia Whirlwind Soldier and Kathy Antonen; Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial tours; and a historic tour of Deadwood, presented by Dr. David Wolff, BHSU professor of history.

The conference is supported by BHSU, USF, the S.D. Humanities Council, and Pearson Education.
