The South Dakota District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced today the Black Hills State University Foundation in Spearfish has been awarded a $750,000 grant to establish the South Dakota Women’s Business Center. The funding, which comes from the SBA, is provided to economic development organizations who directly assist entrepreneurs in South Dakota with special emphasis on women.

“This business program will be a great addition to the existing entrepreneurial assistance resources in South Dakota,” said SBA South Dakota district director John L. Brown II. “The training and counseling provided by the South Dakota Women’s Business Center is being established at the right time to help entrepreneurs get through these tough economic times.”

“We appreciate the confidence of the SBA for their support with this grant which allows Black Hills State University to expand our business consulting and outreach program,” said BHSU President Kay Schallenkamp. “It is exciting to be part of a program that is such a great resource for South Dakota’s businesses, especially women and Native American-owned businesses.”

The South Dakota Women’s Business Center will be part of a network of more than 75 centers nationwide providing management and technical assistance, comprehensive training and counseling on a vast array of topics to entrepreneurs.
