Annual powwow draws participants from across the region

Dancers of all ages gathered at the 26th Lakota Omniciye Wacipi (powwow), an annual event that draws people from a multi-state area. The powwow was held recently at Black Hills State University as part of American Indian Awareness Week. This year’s theme was “Celebrating American Indian Sovereignty.” According to John Glover, interim director of the Center for American Indian Studies at BHSU, even with economic conditions attendance was strong at the powwow and especially at American Indian Awareness Week events.
