Grant writing workshop offered at no cost to BHSU graduate students, faculty, and staff

Black Hills State University Sponsored Programs will pay registration and travel costs for faculty, staff, and graduate students at BHSU who wish to attend the one-day workshop at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSMT) Thursday, May 14 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the SDSMT campus in Rapid City.

Attaining the proper grant funding may be the catalyst needed to spur dramatic research. This one-day seminar will focus on helping your grant writing skills to further your career and aid your department in becoming more competitive for grants.

The workshop will feature several topics such as identifying funding option, request for proposals (RFP) and budget agency announcements (BAA), budget preparation and the circulars, evaluation components in proposals, polishing your proposal, how proposals are evaluated by reviewers, institutional review boards (IRB), and general research ethics.

This workshop will be taught by L. Eric James II, J.D., M.S., director of the Office of Sponsored Programs at SDSMT. James has worked for the last decade in sponsored programs and has been involved with over $250 Million in successful proposals during that time.

The target audience for this workshop is college faculty, researchers, graduate students, or grant writers serving higher education.
