Black Hills State University will be offering an “Entrepreneurship in the Arts” certificate program starting in early February. This non-credit certificate program is targeted at artists of all disciplines who seek to support themselves through their art.
Courses will be offered Thursday evenings beginning Feb. 5 with the last class the evening of March 19. Participants are able to register for individual sessions for $39 each or $219 for all six sessions. These sessions are open to community members throughout the region.
Sessions include:
- Feb. 5-Entrepreneurship 101
- Feb. 12-Legal issues in entrepreneurship
- Feb 19-Marketing and the entrepreneur
- Feb. 26-What every entrepreneur needs to know about financials
- March 3-Entrepreneurial event planning
- March19-Meet the arts entrepreneur
The courses are designed to help artists become entrepreneurial in managing and shaping their careers and developing the skills required for creating market-based opportunities in the arts. Courses will be taught by experts in the fields of the fine arts and business including: Dr. Priscilla Romkema, dean of the college of business and technology at BHSU; Dr. Ken Schallenkamp, associate professor of business at BHSU; Dr. Annette Ryerson, assistant professor of business at BHSU; Sheila Aaker, assistant dean in the college of business and technology at BHSU; Doug Stevens, attorney and adjunct instructor at BHSU; Laura Prosser, assistant professor of accounting and economics at BHSU; and Liz Diers, assistant professor of business at BHSU.
