Belle Fourche school district is the first district in South Dakota to implement inquiry mathematics from K-12. To support the implementation of new mathematics scientifically-based curricula, the district adopted a four-phase professional development recommended by Hickenbotham. Her presentation related lessons learned from the process and the roles of the partners focusing on the training models used to prepare mathematics teacher leaders to help teachers transition to inquiry-based instruction.
NCSM is a mathematics leadership organization for educational leaders that provides professional learning opportunities necessary to support and sustain improved student achievement. NCSM envisions a future in which no resistant patterns of differences exist in academic access or success among students grouped by race, ethnicity, culture, neighborhood, parental income, or home language. The 40th Anniversary Salt Lake City Conference was an event that provided learning and leading insights on this issue of equity as it applies to the teaching, learning, and assessment of mathematics.
