The Alternative Spring Break team of eight students and two advisors will discuss their trip and the life-changing experiences they had in Guatemala during a presentation Friday, April 11 in the Trump Room of the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union. There will be two presentations the first is at noon and the second will follow at 12:30 p.m.

The Black Hills State University track and cross country program is organizing the 29th Annual Kevin Whirlwind Horse Memorial Run/Walk Sunday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Lyle Hare Stadium. The race is one of the final events of the week-long American Indian Awareness celebration. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with categories for all ages.

It was after reading the book “The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind” – a true story of a young African boy who built a windmill from junkyard scraps in order to help feed his village – that Greg Wilson knew he wanted to work in renewable energy. But it was through his courses as a graduate student in the Black Hills State University Master of Sustainability program that he was inspired to do much more.

Black Hills State University and several local museums are collaborating on a three-day event which will include the screening of "The Last Cowboy" as well as a discussion with its filmmaker Jon Alpert and his main character Porcupine cowboy Vern Sager. The event is the vision of longtime journalism professor and Belle Fourche native William "Bill" Kunerth who died in December.

Spearfish High School senior Sam Hintgen, who plans to major in biology with a goal of going into the medical field, joins the elite ranks of Nelson Scholars at Black Hills State University. He was selected based on his outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements at Spearfish High School as well as his leadership abilities, integrity and responsibility.
