Black Hills State University will host the seventh annual Black Hills Distance Running Camp July 25-28. The camp, directed by Scott Walkinshaw, tenth-year head coach for the BHSU cross country and track and field teams, will include current and former members of the BHSU cross country team and coaching staff as well as special guest clinicians.

The Spearfish chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) recently awarded scholarships to four Black Hills State University students. The students will each receive a $900 scholarship to attend BHSU during the 2007-2008 school year.

ahmad_ahrar.jpgDr. Ahrar Ahmad, political science professor at Black Hills State University, recently received one of the most prestigious academic awards - a Fulbright Scholarship. Ahmad received the senior teaching and research fellowship for the 2007-08 school year. While on sabbatical from BHSU next year, he will teach upper division courses in political science at the International University in Bangladesh, one of the oldest private universities in that country.

bear_hand_fischer_thumb.jpgBHSU junior Bear Hand Fischer was recently awarded a prestigious national scholarship from the Morris K. Udall Foundation. He is the first BHSU student to receive the honor. The award will include a $5,000 scholarship, unique travel opportunities, and valuable experiences in Fischer’s fields of study.

godspell_logo_thumb.jpg This July BHSU will open the doors on the premiere season of its summer theatre program at the Historic Homestake Opera House in Lead. During this first season, the troupe, known as the Black Hills State Players, will present the family-friendly musical “Godspell.” Performances will be held every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from Friday, July 13 through Sunday, Aug. 12.
