There are currently several wildfires in the Black Hills region including one on nearby Crow Peak. There is currently no threat to the Spearfish community or campus.
For updates on the fires and air quality, please see the links below. While it’s distressing to see our beautiful surrounding Black Hills on fire, there is currently no danger for Spearfish and the region. See specific updates below. BHSU will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on this page.
We thank the firefighters for their dedication. We are working with officials to provide necessary resources including lodging, dining services, and office space as needed. They may have fire trucks and equipment with them in the BHSU parking lots.
There are a small number of camps and conferences scheduled the week of June 26th. If you have questions or concerns please contact 605.641.6988.
Update from the city:
While the fire on Crow Peak may look fairly intimidating to residents of Spearfish, there is no current threat to the community itself. We will continue to see heavy smoke, dependent on weather and winds. An in depth update can currently be tracked here.
