An accomplished concert pianist with 35 years of teaching experience, Mila Belakova was born in a Russian city of Orenburg in the South of Ural Mountains. At the age 5 she made her first steps in music, which turned out to be the beginning of an exciting lifelong journey. She received her degree in music from one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges in the country, the Rostropovich Institute of Arts. She was trained in the best traditions of the Russian performance school as her teacher was a student of Tchaikovsky's student. In Orenburg, Mila taught piano, music theory and music literature; accompanied string and wind instruments, soloists and ensembles; and played for the choirs and classic ballet dancers at the Pushkin Municipal Children's School of the Arts (a special experimental preparatory school and after-school program for music and arts).
Since moving to Rapid City in 2007, she has been teaching piano and music theory, accompanying instrumentalists, choirs and classical ballet dance classes, as well as playing solo for communities across South Dakota, Minnesota, North Dakota and Washington, DC. Her thorough and thoughtful instruction has brought her several teaching recognition awards in Russia and has helped her students receive numerous awards for outstanding performance in Russia and in USA.
Since 2010 , Mila has been performing with support of South Dakota Arts Council. Her repertoire includes many of the most renowned classical masterpieces and a lot of beautiful pieces by Russian composers, yet little known to the American audience.
