Black Hills State University professors of music, Dr. Janeen Larsen and Dr. Randall Royer, were recently recognized for their years of service by the South Dakota Music Education Association.
Larsen who was recognized for 35 years of service, has taught at BHSU since 1978. “Teaching is my passion as well as my profession and I am sure I will always continue to share my love of music with others,” says Larsen.
Royer was recognized for 30 years of service. He has taught at BHSU since 1997. “Thirty years go by amazingly fast! The reward of teaching that long is seeing your former students become successful teachers in their own right. I love to hear what former students are doing and how they have excelled,” says Royer.
Years of Service Award plaques are presented as a music educator completes 25, 30, 35, 40, or 45 years of service. The awardees can be in any music teaching career field and do not have to be members of SDMEA or the National Association for Music Educators (MENC).
