Black Hills State University continues to promote engagement between employers and students through multiple Accounting, Business, and Employer Fairs this year.

Add 120 accounting students to 13 regional businesses, then multiply by two campus locations, and you'll get the Fall Accounting Fair at BHSU.

BHSU will host two Accounting Fairs, one in Spearfish and one in Rapid City, Wednesday, Sept. 20.  The Spearfish fair will be held from 9-11 a.m. in the Joy Center. The Accounting Fair in Rapid City will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the Atrium of BHSU-Rapid City.

Each event will kick-off with an upbeat Accounting Jam during which businesses have three minutes to pitch their best elevator speeches to the students, their potential hires.

"Our accounting students are well sought-after and in high demand," says Melissa Haught, retention and recruitment specialist for the BHSU College of Business and Natural Sciences. "They are often offered jobs-- full-time positions-- from the internships at these fairs."

The community is encouraged to attend the Accounting Jam, which will last the first 30 minutes of each fair. Interested businesses can still register to be represented at either location online through Jacket Job Link.

BHSU is also bringing back Employer in the Foyer for both the fall 2017 and spring 2018 semesters. This event invites three prominent employers each month to engage with all BHSU business students on the Spearfish campus. Employers will host student luncheons, promote internship and career opportunities, and visit classrooms to discuss industry-specific topics.

"Employer in the Foyer is a much more casual and informal process-- the whole intent is to network and to learn more about the industry," says Haught.

"In college, you don't still don't know exactly what you want to be," says BHSU alum Trait Thorn, who was offered her current position as Audit Associate at Casey Peterson & Associates in Rapid City at the 2015 Accounting Fair. She encourages current students to attend both events, saying, "Internships are a good way to find out if your major is your true calling!"

An additional Business Fair will be held during the spring semester for all BHSU business students.

The BHSU School of Business offers high-quality programs in business that are accredited by AACSB, considered the "gold standard" in business accreditations.
