Melissa Johnson will be the featured speaker at the 7th Annual Celebrating Women in Business Luncheon.

The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) at Black Hills State University presents the seventh annual Celebrating Women in Business Luncheon at the Spearfish Holiday Inn and Convention Center Friday, May 13.

The signature annual event celebrates all working women, whether they are current entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs, or working members of the business community.

The exhibitor/vendor showcase begins at 10 a.m. with lunch at 11:30 a.m. The program features guest speaker Melissa Johnson, founder of Oh My Cupcakes! and partner in a new sister company, Oh My Word Luxury Paperie, both located in Sioux Falls. Luncheon attendees will receive a resource booklet, access to business exhibitors, networking opportunities, and lunch. The event will wrap up at 1 p.m.

Guest speaker Johnson is a self-titled "entrepreneur and passionate wordsmith," and was awarded the SBA 2013 Woman Owned Small Business of the Year. In addition to her businesses in Sioux Falls, she is the author of the book Fingers in the Frosting, a book which details her company's journey and encourages people to follow their own dreams.

Michele Loobey-Gertsch, planning team member and community relations coordinator for Regional Health in Rapid City encourages all women to attend, "Every woman needs a tool box of professional resources. This event is just one program SD CEO provides to benefit women in the business community. If you are just beginning your career, have recently moved to the area, or are a seasoned professional I encourage you to attend."

In addition to the guest speaker, the Celebrating Women in Business award will be announced and presented. Helen Merriman, director of the SD CEO, comments, "These four awards will be presented to exemplary women entrepreneurs chosen from a statewide nomination process.  These women have made a significant impact in business, and their actions exemplify savvy business acumen, integrity, compassion, and commitment to community." Merriman encourages all women to attend this event for inspiration to begin and strengthen a business, network with other business women, and gain valuable insight into the world of entrepreneurship.

Register for the luncheon by May 2 to receive the early bird discount, $25. Starting May 3, the late fee registration is $35.  For more information or to register, contact the SD CEO at 605-642-6435 or visit www.BHSU.edu/SDCEO.
