Several facility upgrades and changes are taking place at the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center on the Black Hills State University campus in preparation for the fall 2015 semester.

A Jacket Zone store, with Yellow Jacket apparel and gift items, will be added on the first floor

Work is already underway on several other changes. Due to structural and risk management concerns, the current BHSU Athletic Weight Room located on the second floor balcony will be moved to the lower level. The Fitness Room (currently on the first floor) will relocate to the second floor balcony area.

"The current setup, with the repeated use of free weight equipment on the second floor of the Young Center, has created a concern from a risk management perspective," Jhett Albers, BHSU Athletics Director, said. "We are making changes to alleviate those concerns."

He noted that space for the Fitness Room on the upper level is being reconfigured and will provide the needed square footage to accommodate all the current fitness equipment and aerobic equipment. Construction is underway and the project is expected to be complete in August.

Additional construction is also taking place in the varsity athletic locker rooms.  The two locker rooms located at the south end of the Aquatics Center hallway will continue to be designated as swim team, membership, and SA Club locker rooms.  These locker rooms will also continue to serve as "travel team" locker rooms during the academic year.

Brock Anundson, who began as assistant director with BHSU Athletics and the Donald E. Young Sports &amp Fitness Center in July, says that he&rsquos honored to be a part of the BHSU staff and is looking forward to working with community members and students.

"I have been given the honor of overseeing facility operations, which includes the fitness center, aquatics, and more. I am very excited to be a part of such a great environment there are some fantastic resources that you all get to experience," Anundson said.

Anundson brings a wealth of experience from working within professional athletic facilities &amp events. His background includes four seasons with the Denver Broncos, three years with University of Denver Athletics, and most recently, three years with the United States Olympic Committee.

Anundson will be the point person working directly with membership, facility use (Aquatics, Field House, Gym, Fitness Room, Classrooms, Lyle Hare Stadium) athletic sporting events and facility operations within the Young Center and other BHSU athletic sports facilities.

"We look forward to continuing to provide those who use the Young Center a positive experience with quality facilities.  We appreciate your continued support and patience as we transition through the changes over the coming months," Albers said.
