Communities around the nation would be lucky to have a resident like Carol Lundberg.

Black Hills State University recently selected Lundberg to serve as the 2015 Swarm Days Parade Marshal, an honor acknowledging Lundberg&rsquos support of the university and the Spearfish community she now calls home. The annual BHSU Swarm Days Parade begins at 10 a.m. Oct. 10 and will travel down Jackson Blvd. and Main Street in Spearfish.

Steve Meeker, vice president of university advancement at BHSU, said Lundberg has been a strong supporter of BHSU scholarships in math and science.

"Carol is an outstanding choice to lead our parade this year. She is very involved in Spearfish as she participates in many activities at the university and volunteers her time at the Spirit of the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary," said Meeker. "She is a great example of how you can move into a community, get involved in that community, and then become a big part of that community."

Lundberg grew up in eastern South Dakota and moved to California after graduating high school. She spent almost 50 years in California and worked in the self-insured health care industry before moving to Spearfish. Lundberg says she chose Spearfish because it is the "prettiest place in South Dakota" with nearby hiking and biking trails.

Lundberg has volunteered with the Spirit of the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and other organizations in Spearfish, including the Good Shepherd Clinic, since she came to Spearfish over a decade ago. She often accompanies the students who work at the Wildlife Sanctuary to enjoy lunch at the BHSU Hive Dining Hall &ndash a welcome break for the hardworking community volunteer.

"Hard work and sharing &ndash it truly pays off," said Lundberg. "I&rsquom very excited and honored to serve as the Swarm Days Parade Marshal."
