Hannah Downs, mass communication and corporate communication major from Madison, draws upon her education from BHSU while working at B9Creations, a growing 3D printing company in Rapid City.

Black Hills State University student Hannah Downs works with a global network of clients in the United States, Turkey, India, and China &ndash all from her office located in Rapid City.

Downs began working as an intern at B9Creations, a start-up 3D printing company based out of Rapid City, last December. Six months later Downs is the sales and marketing coordinator and has a guaranteed full-time job with the company when she graduates from BHSU this year.

"I work with dealers from all over the world, helping them with promotional and marketing materials," said Downs. "Through this internship I&rsquove learned how to manage myself in a professional setting and provide customer service to our international partners. And now my internship has turned into a full-time job."

A mass communication and corporate communication major from Madison, Downs recently returned from one of the largest tradeshows in Las Vegas, where she met with jewelers from across the globe explaining B9Creations&rsquo technology used to print wax molds for jewelry.

Downs says it&rsquos exciting to work for an emerging and cutting-edge company based in South Dakota. B9Creations launched in 2011 selling powerful 3D printing machines and patented software manufactured in Rapid City. Over 1,300 of the company&rsquos 3D printers are currently in use, with half the machines operating outside the United States.

The mentorship provided by faculty at BHSU has provided opportunities she never thought possible, said Downs. Downs has taken BHSU classes in both Spearfish and at BHSU-Rapid City, a flexibility in location allowing her to be more focused and involved in her internship.

"The real-world application within the mass communications department at BHSU is phenomenal," said Downs. "The faculty have truly prepared me above and beyond for these next steps in my career."
