Black Hills State University will host the fifth annual Accounting Career Fair in Spearfish and at BHSU-Rapid City this month. The fair will take place Sept. 29 in the Joy (Proctor) Krautschun Alumni/Foundation Welcome Center from 1-2:30 p.m. in Spearfish and at BHSU-RC, 4300 Cheyenne Blvd, from 5:30-7 p.m.

Ten to 12 accounting firms and companies visit the annual fair, which provides students an opportunity to meet with professionals and learn more about a career in accounting before graduation. Prior to the Fair starting, businesses will host an accounting jam, a unique spin to the Fair. Each company will give a two minute preview of their business, allowing students to learn more about a company before visiting its booth.

"It is an important event for accounting students to expand their horizons, network with professionals in the accounting field," said Laura Prosser, event coordinator and assistant professor of accounting at BHSU.

Each employer will have a booth and students can drop off resumes and ask about offered internships and full time jobs.

"We have students who find a job and some who find valuable contacts," Prosser said. "It&rsquos really important to have these kinds of connections when you are still at school and learn about the profession you want to get into."

This year the Fair will have private interview rooms available for employers and students to meet and discuss future plans.

The Accounting Career Fair is open to all BHSU students, but organizers specifically encourage accounting majors to attend.

Interested students can email Laura.Prosser@BHSU.edu or (605) 718-4363.

"We are pleased to organize the event and get students and employers together to have the opportunity to start the networking process," said Prosser.

The event is open to any business which would like to participate. Companies are welcome to sign up and have a table. Registration is free. For more information visit www.BHSU.edu/AccountingFair.
