BHSU announces new scholarships for local and regional students

           The Spearfish High School We the People team presented at the South Dakota State Showcase at Black Hills State University in January.  BHSU just released three new scholarship programs specifically for local high school students.  The Northern Hills Jacket Incentive Scholarship is awarded based on involvement in We the People, Honors and/or Debate.  Incoming and current students are encouraged check out the new scholarships at www.BHSU.edu/Scholarships

Black Hills State University recently announced several new scholarship programs created specifically for local and regional high school students. The new scholarship programs include: the Northern Hills Jacket Incentive Scholarship that will be awarded for civic engagement the Presidential Medallion Scholarship Program for academic achievement, and Humbert Hall Room Scholarship for academic achievement and financial need.



 "We created these new scholarship opportunities to encourage more local high school students to enroll at Black Hills State University," BHSU President Tom Jackson, Jr., said. "We want to recognize students&rsquo civic engagement activities, reward them for their exceptional academic achievements and support their goal of earning a university degree."



The Northern Hills Jacket Incentive Scholarship, of up to $4,000 (over four years), will be awarded based on student&rsquos involvement in We The People:  The Citizen and the Constitution statewide civic education program, High School Honors, and/or High School Debate.  This scholarship is specifically for Spearfish, Rapid City, Lead-Deadwood, Newell or Belle Fourche High schools students.  All students who attend eligible high schools and have been involved with the listed student organizations will be eligible for these scholarships.



The Presidential Medallion Scholarship, ranging between $4,000 and $16,000 (over four years) is based on an individual&rsquos demonstrated record of exceptional academic ability as well as their service, intellectual curiosity and commitment to community.  A limited number of Presidential Medallion Scholarships are available per academic year. Students should submit the General Scholarship Application to be considered. Students who are selected for these awards will notified by the BHSU Office of Admissions.  



The Humbert Hall Room Scholarship provides students with one-half the cost of their residence hall room in Humbert Hall for up to two years.  Scholarships are awarded based on a student&rsquos academic accomplishments and/or financial need.  A limited number of Humbert Hall Room Scholarships are available per academic year. Students should submit the General Scholarship Application to be considered. Students who are selected for these awards will notified by the BHSU Office of Admissions.
